The World We Deserve – 305 – If You Have Ghosts

Another excellent episode of HBO’s True Detective! We finally get to meet Old Man West in “If You Have Ghosts”, and the wait was worth it. Both funny and poignant, it appears that 22 years of bad blood and as yet unknown extra-judicial shenanigans have left a rift in their relationship. But Wayne’s memory gaps ironically serve to bridge the two men back together. At five episodes in, we’re still not really sure where the mystery is going, but the chemistry between Wayne, Amelia, and Rolland is so good that the case of the missing Purcell children is almost a distraction from “the good stuff”. That’s a pretty high compliment to pay a Detective show. We discuss all this plus lots of your great feedback. See you next week!

Game of Thrones – 305 – Kissed by Fire

Lots of things get “Kissed by Fire” in this episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones. The Hound. Jon Snow. Leslie’s Rose. But in all seriousness there is so much good packed into this hour of Thrones; Robb beheading an important bannerman in the pouring rain; Jaime venting a lifetime of frustration and regret upon an unsuspecting Brienne; Tywin managing to bitterly disappoint both of the children he has in his presence; and Dany looking more and more like the Conquerer that she thinks she’s destined to be. Join us for a lengthy discussion of all of this and more, and just a metric ton of feedback from your fellow fans. See you next week!

Beltalowda – 305 – Triple Point

This week’s episode of SyFy’s The Expanse, “Triple Point”, finds our crew preparing to storm Io and rescue Prax’s daughter by force, only to find a sizable portion of both Earth and Mars’ fleets converging upon them. The final 15 minutes of this episode might well be the most tense The Expanse has ever been. Meanwhile, Jules-Pierre Mao and Dr. Strickland make a break through, Alex gets another missive from home, Amos is really worried about what he and his fellow crew members’ hi-jinks are doing to poor Prax, Avasarala lies, and James and Naomi find common ground. Next week promises to be amazing, see you then!

Mr. Robot – 305 – eps3.4_runtime-err0r.r00

Jim and A.Ron were blown away by the latest real time “oner” episode of USA Network’s Mr. Robot, “eps3.4_runtime-err0r.r00”.  We think the technique was employed skillfully here, increasing the drama, tension, and immediacy.  We’re also left with a lot of questions regarding the state of Stage 2, Angela’s relative hacking skills, the nature of Mr. Robot’s relationship with Elliot, and we’d love to know exactly what Darlene is up to, and how much of her plan the FBI has signed off on.  More answers surely to come, but this was a fun ride!

Fargo – 305 – The House of Special Purpose

FX’s Fargo comes out swinging this week on “The House of Special Purpose”, delivering top notch black comedy and savage inhuman beatings with equal aplomb. Seriously, somebody should get an Emmy nom just for the phrase “fornicating with the cookware!” We try to figure out exactly how powerful Varga is, speculate on the Storage Queen’s prospects as an escape hatch for the Stussey crew, start to get suspicious of “New Chief” Dammick, and consider some of our listener feedback in a packed podcast episode.

Following The Leftovers – 305 – It’s a Matt Matt Matt Matt World

HBO’s The Leftovers had a Matt Jamison episode in “It’s a Matt Matt Matt Matt World”, which means it was heavily thematic, absurd, inspiring, infuriating, and more than anything, Biblical in it’s intensity. Adding John, Michael, and Laurie, and a bunch of hedonists who’ve formed a cult around a 91 year old lion just makes it so much more so. We discuss Matt’s shifting relationship with his faith, a surprising amount on the human penis, and attempt to talk a few Leftovers fans off their emotional ledges.

Better Cast Saul – 305 – Chicanery

Jim and A.Ron are highly impressed at the high stakes quasi-legal and totally legit familial drama on hand with the latest episode of AMC’s Better Call Saul, “Chicanery”. A masterclass in acting and dialog, Jimmy has to go three levels deep in scamming to fool Chuck, but he manages to do so, with devastating results. But how does Jimmy skate given his crimes? Will this end the blood feud between the brothers? Will Chuck go darker? Will Kim get caught in the cross fire? We discuss all this, plus feedback, and a rather excited spoiler section geeking out over next week’s episode.
